ABOUT SCR

South City Raceways was started in back in January 1998, when Mark (Raceline Raceway)built his first track. At first it was 2 or 3 regular slotters, plus a few of Marks work mates having a bit of a play once a fortnight on a Friday night.

South City Raceways

The first track was around 21.5 metres in length (Please see the pictures on the left). It was also unique in the fact that on the turns, Mark had inlayed low grade stainless steel. This gave the advantage of the track being able to be used for both magnetic and non-magnetic racing. The track was fast as well, with a magnetic lap record of 5.2 seconds and a non mag record of 5.9 seconds. This track now forms the basis of the Valley Speedway.

Around May 2000 racing went too weekly. This was helped by the increased interest, created by a bit of promotion, via local hobby retailers. Racing continued at Raceline until early 2001, when the second track, Pete's, which is sadly no longer in use, came online.

Today South City Raceways boasts seven tracks in regular use, with another track currently under construction. Racing is now weekly on a Monday night.

As always, we strive to promote a friendly atmosphere where 1/32 slot car enthusiasts can race with other like minded people. We always welcome new comers and encourage them to participate.
